Kakenya spoke to senior girls from two Sydney girls’ schools; Brigidine College and Queenwood School for Girls. Her personal story and drive to bring about gender based equality in education resonated strongly with the students at these schools, who reflected on how fortunate they are to receive a quality education. By sharing the stories of some of the students at Kakenya’s Center for Excellence (KCE), Kakenya illustrated the issues facing girls growing up in remote Kenyan communities and the remarkable impact of education on the girls, their families and their communities.

The students asked Dr Ntaiya what they could do to help to bring about change and we hope to continue to work with these schools in the future.

We would like to continue this program of engagement with schools, to bring Kakenya’s story and the story of girls’ education in Maasai communities to other students; both girls and boys. Our Sydney based university students are hoping to share their experiences of education and opportunity with more secondary students later in the year.
